TREE PRUNING

Good pruning is an art. The time of year, species of tree, condition of soil, age and health of the tree must all be considered. Less is more when it comes to pruning. Severe pruning can negatively impact the tree’s health and aesthetic. Whereas expert pruning can improve the health and beauty of trees for many years to come

Why prune a tree:

  • Allow more light into properties
  • Improve the tree’s structure and health
  • Reduce potential hazards such as weak unions and dead branches
  • Reduce wind resistance
  • Create clearance from buildings, wires, or roads
  • Improve or balance the tree’s shape

Pruning options:

  • Crown reductions: A 30% reduction of the crown is standard for most trees. For mature trees with less vigor 10% reduction is recommended
  • Structural pruning: This involves reducing or removing structural weaknesses that could cause the tree the fail in the future
  • Crown lifting: Lower branches are removed or reduced up to a specified height, normally above head height. This allows clearance for things like grass cutting or delivery trucks
  • Thinning: selective branches are removed without reducing the overall height or breadth of the canopy. This allows wind to pass through the tree instead of push against it. Thinning is also crucial for tree health as light and air can get into the inner canopy, reducing disease and increasing photosynthesis
  • Formative pruning: Young trees are trained to develop strong and healthy structures. Young trees have amazing healing abilities that reduce as the tree matures making severe structural pruning in older trees more likely to cause internal decay
  • Pollarding: This allows a tree to be maintained at a desired size throughout it’s life. Every 1-5 years new regrowth is removed back to previously established ‘knuckles’

TREE REMOVAL AND TREE FELLING

  • Too close to property, wires and roads
  • In exposed areas and likely to fail
  • Trees damaged during construction or ground works
  • Blocking light or views
  • Roots that are damaging foundations and structures
  • Shading out other plants in the garden
  • Land clearance for construction
  • Overgrown trees no longer suitable for their location

HEDGE TRIMMING

We can provide quality hedge trimming of any type and size. We specialise in tall and difficult to access hedges. If your property has limited access we can provide low impact solutions instead of heavy machinery, like hoists, which can cause damage to intricate gardens and landscapes. All trimmings will be chipped and recycled as animal bedding and garden mulch. Contact us for a quote.
